For Elaine Morrissey, setting up Rock Consultancy wasn’t just a career move, it was a conscious decision to take control of her own path. With a strong background as a solicitor and years of experience across private practice and in-house roles, Elaine recognised both the value she could offer and the growing need for practical, no-nonsense support in data protection and AI governance.
Today, she combines deep expertise with real-world insight to help organisations navigate compliance in a way that builds trust, minimises risk, and actually works in practice.
So tell us about yourself and what led you to set up in business ?
I set up my own business, Rock Consultancy, as I wanted to be the author of my own destiny. I have significant private practice and in house experience (I am a solicitor) and know I have a lot to give and can support clients in a practical, no fuss way. I have being specialising in data protection for years and in the last few years stepped into AI Governance, so the time felt right to go out on my own.
What are the types of services that you you provide and what problems that you solve for your customers?
I Support organisations with data privacy & AI governance compliance to enhance their reputation, build trust and minimise risks
What makes your company’s approach different from what’s traditionally been done in your field?
Having in-house experience (insurance, pharma and technology) means I know what works in practice. I understand businesses need to focus on their business and I need to support with compliance in the most resource friendly, least disruptive way and also know when something is a critical issue that requires immediate attention.
How do you stay inspired and motivated?
Since setting up on my own I have a whole new level of motivation. The people I have met since I have gone out on my own really inspire me. I feel like I am seeing a whole new world. Also I strongly believe in the need for data protection and AI governance and that business and good governance are good for business.
What one piece of advice would you share with others on how to overcome business setbacks?
Process it, take the learnings and move on

Blackrock beach was a life saver during covid. I used to bring my son there (it was one of the beaches that wasn’t closed) and it always gave a lift in those quiet and dull days. I regularly walk down to it and it never fails to disappoint and it reminds me how fortunate I am in life.
